Delta G.E.M.S. & Academy

DELTA G.E.M.S.

Delta GEMSThe mission of the DELTA GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) is to provide young ladies with a firm structural program that will enhance their self-esteem, academic achievement, leadership skills, and cultural awareness. This, in turn, will allow them to develop emotionally, socially, and intellectually and be prepared to take an active role in their success as they face the challenges of the world.

The Delta GEMS logo is likened to a gemologist who can see, through the use of certain tools, the hidden treasure in unpolished jewels. Delta GEMS uses the polished jewels as a symbol of the facets that shine and glow within our young African American women. The program is for young women entering or attending high school in the fall (grades 9-12) and/or 14-18 years old.

The Delta GEMS program offers a road map for college and career planning through activities that provide opportunities for self-reflection and individual growth. Delta GEMS participants have the opportunity to define and “Discover their individual Brilliance.”

DELTA ACADEMY

Delta Academy

Rockford Alumnae Chapter’s signature DELTA ACADEMY program provides mentoring activities for middle school girls in both cities of our service area.  Delta Academy is a blessing to young ladies as we prepare them for success in the twenty-first century.  This experience empowers them as they become aware of their talents and ingenuity.

The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy provides an opportunity for chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to enrich and enhance the education that our young teens receive in public schools across the nation. A primary goal of the program is to prepare young females for full participation as leaders in the 21st Century. Specifically, we augment their scholarship in math, science, and technology, their opportunities to provide service in the form of leadership through service learning defined as the cultivation and maintenance of relationships. Delta Academy aim’s to shape well rounded young women by focusing on character development, healthy choices, and service learning for preteen and early teenage girls 11-14 years of age.
